Drylands is a photo that takes you into the past, where toughness and grit were required for survival. The whimsical skies serve as wistful memories while the old homestead lays protected from the harsh winds of the plains by surrounding trees, which were surely planted as a windbreak and to keep from being exposed to the harsh elements of the southern plains. Taken in southern Kansas, only the rumbles of thunder kept me company as I captured this beautiful moment.

Destin, Florida is one of those places that you visit and never forget. While I was on a dolphin cruise (chasing dolphins instead of tornadoes!) I captured this shot of Destin Bridge just as the sun was getting ready to set, and you can see the travelers heading back north from a fun and long day on the beach.
What goes together better than cows, rainbows and storms? That's the mix in this photograph captured south of Buckland, Kansas. The day was pretty much done but the sky still had some magic left as sunshine bolted out of the shadows and a rainbow somehow found its way into the shot. Capturing cows for a photograph is actually a little harder than it looks. They tend to move away as you get closer, or maybe it's just me they do that too. Anyways, I got these guys to stand there long enough to pose for this photograph, aptly named "Bovine Shine".
I'm starting a new feature on my blog where I will post a "Photo of the Day" everyday. Today I'm starting with a photo I took near Dodge City, Kansas on May 24th, 2016 of a crazy supercell that was in between producing tornadoes but had spectacular structure. The cell went on to produce at least 10 tornadoes and traveled from southwest of Dodge City to the northeast.
